The event, marked by optimismand realismin equal measure, underscoredboth the sec- tor’s robust performance and the strategic transformationunderway. Accordingtothe“2025BankingSpotlight” report, which draws on Deloitte’s Bankview benchmarking tool and an in- dependent analysis of 67 Luxembourg- based banks, the sector continues to demonstrate resilience and growth. In 2025, profit before provisions and taxes reached €9.8 billion, while net revenue grewatacompoundannualrateof12per- cent from 2020 to 2024. Return on equity stood at 11 percent, outpacing the EUav- erage. Total assets climbed to €937.5 bil- lion, and commission income rose by 9.4 percent. Despite a stable workforce of 26,000employees,themarketremainsdy- namic, with 16 new entrants since 2020, several mergers, and ongoing restructur- ing. The number of credit institutions has decreased slightly, but the competitive landscape is as vibrant as ever. Throughout the event, speakers high- lighted the sector’s diversity as a unique strength. Luxembourg’s banks span pri- vate, corporate, depository, anduniversal models, and the country’s international orientation—withmany foreign head of- fices and a multicultural workforce—po- sitions it as a bridge between local and global markets. This diversity enables agility and resilience, even as it brings ex- posure to international risks and the need for constant adaptation. The discussions also focused on the chal- lenges ahead. Regulatory complexity and theso-called“warfortalent”werecitedas pressing concerns. With 82 percent of the workforce being non-Luxembourgish, attractingandretainingskilledprofession- als—especiallyindigital,risk,andsustain- able finance—has become a critical prior- ity. Technological disruption is reshaping the industry, as fintechs, neobanks, and innovationsliketokenizationandartificial intelligence gain ground. Speakers called for smarter, principle-based regulation to enhance agility and competitiveness, and for continued investment in talent and innovation. Despite these challenges, the atmosphere at the Banking 360 eventwas decidedly forward-looking. The sector’s stability,regulatorystandards,andexper- tise remain key attractions for clients and investors. Speakers urged banks to focus oncorebusiness,divestnon-coreactivities, democratize access to investment prod- ucts, and leverage EU passporting for cross-borderservices.Operationalefficien- cy, digital and AI innovation, and work- force transformation were identified as strategic imperatives for the years ahead. During the fireside chat, Maryam Khabirpour, Partner at Deloitte Luxem- bourg, and Sandrine Roux, General SecretaryatABBL,emphasizedtheimpor- tance of collaboration—both within the industry and with regulators—as well as theneedtoembracediversityinskillsand backgrounds to future-proof the sector. As the event drewtoa close, the collective message was clear: Luxembourg’s bank- ing sector is not onlyprepared toweather the storms of a rapidly changingfinancial landscape, but is also poised to lead with confidence, agility, andasharedvisionfor excellence.
