The Italian tax amnesty, the Scudo Fiscale, 2009
Life assurance’s unique, simple and tax efficient solution Thanks to the G20’s crackdown on so called tax havens and the ongoing effects of the financial crisis, governments across the globe have been spurred into taking action in an attempt to repatriate assets held abroad and inject some much needed liquidity into struggling economies. To this end, in August the Italian Senate approved a tax amnesty, the “Scudo Fiscale”, aimed at encouraging the repatriation or regularisation of, it is hoped, up to EUR100 billion of offshore capital and assets held by Italian tax residents as of 31st December 2008.
