Private equity likes to claim it is opening its doors to private wealth. In reality, it wants the capital, not the questions.
Across Europe and beyond, private markets are loudly courting family offices, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals as institutional capital becomes more selective and fundraising cycles stretch. Yet behind the polished rhetoric of “democratisation” and “access,” the industry’s underlying message is far less inclusive: you may enter, but only on our terms—and preferably without asking too much.
