The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report(1), published in August 2021 and prepared by 234 authors from 65 countries, clearly states that climate change is widespread, rapid, intensifying and caused by human activities. Global warming is making extreme weather events—including heatwaves, heavy precipitation and droughts—more frequent and severe, increasing the frequency of fire-prone weather conditions, and causing the warming, loss of oxygen and acidification of oceans.
