UBS Asset Management launches suite of sustainable equity ETFs tracking newly developed MSCI indexes

UBS Asset Management (UBS AM) today launched a suite of exchange traded funds (ETFs) tracking the newly launched MSCI ESG Universal Low Carbon Select indexes. These funds inherit some of the well-known features of the MSCI ESG Universal methodology, while additionally applying a larger set of activity-based exclusions and removing the 5% highest carbon emitters.   Compared to the standard MSCI ESG Universal methodology, our new approach introduces an enhanced set of values-based exclusions of activities, redefining the notion of baseline exclusions. This is in line with investors' wishes to broaden traditional baseline exclusions and now include Nuclear Weapons, Civilian Firearms, Tobacco, Thermal Coal and Fossil Fuel Extraction.
