Brexit sealed with Johnson’s election

By Dr. Thomas GITZEL, Chief Economist, VP Bank Group The UK has voted for Brexit. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Conservative Party (Tories) clearly win the parliamentary election. Our estimate of an absolute majority for the Tories has thus been confirmed. The Conservatives are the beneficiaries of the British electoral system. In the UK, the majority voting system prevents to take the results of polls to determine seats. In many constituencies, Tory MPs are firmly in the saddle. The EU-friendly Liberal Democrats are to some extent victims of the system, despite a high proportion of votes.
