After more than two years without a general legal framework enabling EU-US transfers of personal data and the associated burden of data transfer impact assessments, a new framework entitled the "EU-US Data Privacy Framework" is on the horizon. On 7 October last, President Biden signed an Executive Order on Enhancing Safeguards for United States Intelligence Activities ("EO") setting out the measures the U.S. will take to implement its commitments under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework announced by President Biden and European Commission President von der Leyden in March 2022, which would provide more certainty to the transfer of personal data from the EU to the US (e.g., in the context of the deployment of cloud services).
