In the field of paid leave enabling parents to temporarily interrupt their careers or shorten their working hours in order to participate in their child's development whilst suspending their employment contract, Luxembourg has come consistently below average in comparison to other European countries, regarding not only the flexibility and duration of national parental leave but also the number of eligible employees taking parental leave, the percentage of fathers taking parental leave as well as the level of remuneration during such leave as compared to previous salary(1).
