We have all heard about Abenomics in Japan and the willingness of the Abe government to improve the Japanese economy. One of the key components of Abenomics’ measures is the Stewardship Code newly adopted in 2014, mainly inspired from the UK Stewardship Code. Not only Japan, but countries in Continental Europe have been largely inspired by the UK model with regards to the corporate governance rules and standards.
The Stewardship Codes provide a set of rules for how a company should be governed and recommendations on “comply-or-explain” obligations.
